Here is a brief comparison of these instruments: Harmonium is a free-reed instrument that uses air pumped by a hand-operated bellows to vibrate metal reeds. Sitar

  The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument that originated from the Indian subcontinent and is used in Hindustani classical music. The instrument was invented in medieval India, flourished in the 18th century, and arrived at its present form in 19th-century India. The sitar has a deep pear-shaped gourd body, a long, wide, hollow wooden neck, both front and side tuning pegs, and 20 arched movable frets.   The sitar has a unique sound that is characterized by its rich resonance and buzzing timbre. The sitar has been used in many genres of music, including classical, folk, and popular music.   The sitar has a long history and has been played by many famous musicians. One of the most well-known sitar players is Ravi Shankar, who was an Indian musician and composer. He was one of the pioneers of world music and introduced the sitar to Western audiences. Western Classical Music

  Western classical music is a broad term that encompasses the art music of the Western world, which is distinct from Western folk music or popular music traditions. It is often characterized by formality and complexity in its musical form and harmonic organization. The earliest extant music manuscripts date from the Carolingian Empire (800–888), around the time which Western plainchant gradually unified into what is termed Gregorian chant. The Baroque period (1580–1750) saw the relative standardization of common-practice tonality, as well as the increasing importance of musical instruments, which grew into ensembles of considerable size. The Classical period (1750–1820) saw the development of sonata form and the symphony orchestra. The Romantic period (1815–1910) saw an emphasis on emotion and individualism, as well as a greater use of programmatic music. The 20th century saw a wide range of styles, including serialism, neoclassicism, and minimalism.

Indian Classical Music
